In their own words: young people speak up for better mental health

World Mental Health Day — a day to raise awareness around the world and mobilise our efforts in support of mental health.

This year, Mental Health Australia’s theme for 10 October is ‘Connect with your community’ and reminds us that our communities – the people and places where we feel safe, seen and heard – can help us feel cared for and supported, which is good for our mental health.

Live4Life is all about connecting and empowering rural and regional communities to support youth mental health and prevent suicide. And young people are at the heart of Live4Life. Since the program began in 2010, over 33,500 young people have received evidence-based mental health education and 1799 students in Years 9 & 10 have volunteered to be Mental Health Ambassadors in the Live4Life Crews.

Who better to inspire us to improve our understanding on World Mental Health Day! When we listen to young people and hear from them directly, we learn how passionate they are about supporting one another and how important it is for them to play a vital role as leaders in stamping out stigma, boosting a culture of help-seeking and help-offering, and driving generational change.

Watch our fabulous Live4Life Crew members as they speak about what's important to them!
