What is Live4Life?

A whole-of-community prevention program to improve youth mental health and reduce suicide.

Live4Life protects young lives.

Through the Live4Life model, we empower rural and regional communities to improve youth mental health and reduce suicide.

Live4Life is the only mental health education and youth suicide prevention model designed specifically for rural and regional communities.

Live4Life communities create local partnerships to drive implementation of the model, provide oversight, and lead community-wide conversations about mental health and suicide prevention. They deliver evidence-based mental health education in schools and the wider community, and promote young leaders as Mental Health Ambassadors.

The Live4Life model is evidence-based. You can read how it has been independently evaluated here.

“Live4Life is not just a program; it's a catalyst for positive change, and its benefits extend far beyond the school environment.”

How it works

Our rural team works with communities to implement the Live4Life model, providing community development support, guidance, and resources.

Since Live4Life began in 2010, the model has been implemented in 14 rural communities across Victoria and Tasmania. Our long-term goal is to empower all rural communities across Australia to support, improve and invest in young people’s mental health and reduce suicide. There are over 20 communities currently keen to implement Live4Life, but we can only scale up in line with funding capacity.

Our purpose

Our mission is to establish Live4Life as a model available to all rural communities across Australia.

Our immediate purpose is to improve mental health for young people and reduce suicide in rural communities by:

  • removing barriers that prevent young people from seeking help

  • decreasing mental health stigma

  • increasing awareness of local professional help

  • improving the mental health knowledge of secondary school-aged students, school staff, parents, carers and community members

  • building community resilience in addressing mental ill-health

“The amount of people that have stopped me in the street, the hallways at uni, or at social events and told me they remember me from the Live4Life program and the way it has helped them is staggering.”
