The impact of the pandemic on young people has been substantial. There is a real and immediate need to focus on the mental health of young people in our community, Youth Live4Life, in collaboration with local communities are seeking suitably qualified and experienced community members to become Teen Mental Health First Aid instructors.

Mental Health First Aid® has recognised Glenelg Shire as a ‘Champion Community’ for its commitment to improving the mental health of young people and the adults who support them.

As students return to the classroom for yet another year of learning in the midst of a pandemic there is an immediate need to focus on the mental health of young people in our community.  With additional funding support from Portland Aluminium the award-winning Youth Mental Health model Live4Life will be supported to become completely embedded and sustainable in Glenelg. 

Live4Life Glenelg Crew have officially launched Live4Life in their school communitites, marking the fifth year of the mental health initiative for young people in the municipality.

A team of newly-trained Youth Mental Health First Aid Instructors is coming to a community near you, further increasing the number of trained Mental Health First Aiders ready to support our young people

“I see the true value of getting in early and teaching our young people how to look after themselves and to recognise the difference between a ‘bad day’ and what may be an emerging mental health problem. As a mental health instructor, I’m now able to teach young people the skills they need to look after their own mental health needs and how to support their mates and peers.” said Leanne Mitchell from Brauer College, Warrnmabool.

An initiative to tackle the region’s high suicide rates will see 20 community members trained in youth mental health first aid across the region.

On Wednesday 26 September 2018, Youth Live4Life Inc. was awarded the Innovative Youth Project or Programs in Rural or Regional Victoria Award at the Youth Affairs Council of Victoria’s Rural Youth Awards.

Youth Live4Life, together with the Live4Life communities of Macedon Ranges Shire, Glenelg Shire and Benalla Rural City were awarded a 2018 VicHealth Award for the groundbreaking Live4Life initiative.
