Crew Camp creates connections and fosters friendships

Image Description: Year 9 & 10 Crew members from eight Live4Life communities

Live4Life's 3rd Crew Camp was held from September 23-25 at the PGL Australia campground at Campaspe Downs. 46 Year 9 & 10 Crew members from eight Live4Life communities made the trip from all over the state to come together. What an incredible group of young people — who threw themselves into a packed program of activities and workshops, made friends and connections, and showed us all their extraordinary capacity for leadership and collaboration. These young ambassadors for better mental health brought fantastic ideas to this huge get together and we're enormously excited to see where they lead.

Over three days, they explored how mental health affects young people's lives, discussed strategies for offering and seeking help, and worked on plans to generate better understanding and awareness among their peers and in their communities. Along the way, we also took time to get the most out of a beautiful lakeside camp location, challenged ourselves on the flying fox and giant swings, and even squeezed in an awesome dance party!

Crew Champions Mina, Talon and Laura did a fabulous job facilitating the program each day. Also staff from 13 Live4Life Communities and eight members of the Live4Life team all came from far and wide! We very much appreciate the many hands on deck who were there to support the Live4Life Crews.

Huge thanks to Live4Life alumnus Kyle Hayes for a brilliant public speaking workshop, to batyr Australia who delivered an invaluable storytelling session, and to Sas & Steph from Movement Zone for the phenomenal dance party.

Lastly, we extend our gratitude to:

  • Born This Way Foundation and Cotton On for the Kindness in Community Fund grant

  • CommBank Staff Foundation Community Grants

  • Pierce Armstrong Foundation

  • Australia Post for the 2024 People of Post grant

  • and everyone who donated to the Crew Camp Fundraising Campaign

...all of whom helped bring these young people together!
