IN THE MEDIA - Baw Baw Shire Nearly 40 young people from eight secondary schools across Baw Baw Shire Council were inducted as local mental health ambassadors today, with the latest Live4Life crew ready to tackle youth mental health head on.

On November 13, 40 Baw Baw Live4Life crew members from seven local secondary schools gathered at The Summit Adventure Park to celebrate another 12 successful months of the Live4Life program, in which more than 800 local Year 8 and 10 students completed the Teen Mental Health First Aid training.

Front page news – local students attend health launch
The Warragul and Drouin Gazette: Larder Park played host to 900 Year 8 students for the official Baw Baw Shire Live4Life launch on Thursday. Students spent the day learning about mental health and hearing from guest speakers and Live4Life crew members from local schools. Live4Life is a health promotion charity that operates across six rural and regional Victorian communities. It aims to improve the lives of young people through mental health education and suicide prevention.
Live4Life Baw Baw launches with 900 students at Lardner Park
What a turnout! Over 900 Year 8 students headed to Lardner Park for the recent launch of Live4Life Baw Baw. With beautiful words from Live4Life Crew Kyle and Laura about their own lived experience – "you could hear a pin drop" – a DJ and over 1000 snags sizzled (thanks Rotary!), it was a wonderful day to celebrate getting together.
New inductees to Baw Baw Live4Life Crew
The Warragul and Drouin Gazette: A further 27 secondary students from throughout Baw Baw Shire have been inducted into the Live4Life Crew. The induction held at the West Gippsland Arts Centre is the first step for the students in years nine and 10 becoming community leaders and mental health ambassadors. They have committed to work collaboratively to reduce the stigma of mental ill health within their communities and decided on a theme for the year which will be announced at an upcoming launch function.

Local young people from each of the nine secondary schools in Baw Baw Shire will work together to raise awareness about mental health.
The Live4Live Crew is a key component of the Live4Life model, that was introduced in Baw Baw Shire in 2020. The Crew will be provided with mentoring and resources to take the lead with health promotion activities within their schools and communities.
